1. Who we are

NEXTCUT ("we," "us," "our") provides booking and rebooking software for independent barbershops. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and how it's handled -- whether you're a barbershop using NEXTCUT to run your business, or a client booking an appointment through a NEXTCUT-powered booking page.

NEXTCUT is operated by Cassandra Christa Tiapis, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Contact: hello@next-cut.ca

This policy is written to comply with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, where applicable, British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).

2. What information we collect

From barbershops (our direct customers)

  • Shop name, owner/staff names, email, phone number
  • Business address and branding details (logo, shop description)
  • Payment and payout information (processed by Stripe -- see Section 5)
  • Login credentials (email + password, securely hashed)

From clients (the barbershop's customers, booking through NEXTCUT)

  • Name, phone number, and/or email address
  • Appointment history and preferences (preferred barber, cut cycle frequency, service notes like "sensitive skin" or "scissors only")
  • Birthday (only if voluntarily provided, for the birthday discount feature)
  • Communication preferences (SMS/email reminder opt-in/opt-out)

We do not collect payment card details directly -- those are handled entirely by Stripe. We do not collect government ID, health information, or financial account details beyond what's needed for appointment scheduling.

Automatically collected

  • Basic technical data (IP address, browser type, device type) for security and troubleshooting
  • Usage data (e.g., which features are used) to improve the product

3. Why we collect it

We use personal information only for purposes directly connected to running the service:

  • To create and manage bookings, reminders, and auto-rebooking
  • To send appointment confirmations, reminders, and receipts (via email/SMS)
  • To let barbershops manage their own client relationships and schedules
  • To process payments and payouts (via Stripe)
  • To improve NEXTCUT's features and fix bugs
  • To respond to support requests

We do not sell personal information to third parties, and we do not use client data for advertising.

4. Legal basis / consent

By booking an appointment through a NEXTCUT-powered page, a client consents to their information being used for the purposes above. Barbershops are responsible for informing their clients that they use NEXTCUT to manage bookings (this policy can be linked from any shop's booking page for that purpose).

Clients can opt out of SMS/email reminders at any time; opting out may affect the auto-rebooking feature, since it relies on reminder delivery.

5. Who we share information with

We share information only with the service providers required to run NEXTCUT, each of whom is contractually or by design limited to processing data on our behalf:

ProviderPurposeData involved
Supabase (hosted in Canada, ca-central-1)Database, authentication, storageAll shop and client data
VercelApplication hostingData in transit while using the app
ResendTransactional email (confirmations, reminders, receipts)Name, email, appointment details
TwilioSMS remindersName, phone number, appointment details
StripePayment processingPayment details (handled directly by Stripe, not stored by us)

We do not share personal information with data brokers, advertisers, or unrelated third parties. We may disclose information if required by law (e.g., a valid court order).

6. Where your data is stored

Client and shop data is stored in Supabase's Canadian data region (ca-central-1), meaning your data resides on servers located in Canada. Some service providers used for email and SMS delivery (Resend, Twilio) may process data on servers located outside Canada as part of delivering messages; this is limited to what's necessary to send that specific message.

7. How long we keep information

We retain shop and client data for as long as an account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward to comply with legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution obligations. A barbershop closing its account can request full deletion of its data and its clients' data (see Section 9).

8. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect personal information, including:

  • Encrypted data storage and transmission
  • Row-level access controls limiting who can see what data
  • Restricted admin access

No system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security, but we work to minimize risk and will notify affected users in the event of a breach involving their personal information, as required by law.

9. Your rights

Depending on your role and location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate information
  • Request deletion of your information
  • Withdraw consent (e.g., opt out of SMS/email reminders)

To make a request, contact hello@next-cut.ca. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe as required under PIPEDA/PIPA.

If you're a client of a specific barbershop and want your appointment history or personal details removed, you can also contact that barbershop directly, since they control their own client list.

10. Cookies

NEXTCUT uses minimal cookies necessary for the site and app to function -- for example, to keep you logged in. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking cookies. If this changes in the future, this policy will be updated accordingly.

11. Children's privacy

NEXTCUT is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child's information has been submitted to us, contact us and we will remove it.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as NEXTCUT grows or as our practices change. We'll update the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify barbershops using the platform.
